San Pedro

San Pedro (also known as Wachuma) is a cactus native to the Andes Mountains and can be found in Peru, Ecuador, Argentina, Chile, and Bolivia. It has been drunk for thousands of years in shamanic healing ceremonies to induce a spiritual journey. The dried cactus can also be eaten and, as with peyote, San Pedro cactus is said to open the doors of the spirit world.

Due to its millenary use in great regions, San Pedro is given a number of ‘miracle cures’ to a variety of illnesses, including cancer, diabetes and paralysis, as well as emotional and psychological problems such as depression and grief.

When San Pedro begins to affect your consciousness, it first feels as though a subtle wave of change occurs, and can best be described as a vibration of sunlight penetrating your energetic field. The medicine’s spiritual correspondence relates to masculine energies, the energy of the sun, and (in my personal experience) serves as a vehicle for remembering light through a presence of warmth.
